John Henry Patterson, and he was an engineer working on the construction of a railway bridge over the Tsavo River in Kenya in 1898.uring the connstruction of the bridge, a pair of man-eating lions began attacking and killing the Indian workers on the project. The lions, which became known as the "Tsavo Man-Eaters," claimed a total of 135 victims before Patterson finally succeeded in killing them.Patterson arrived at Tsavo in March of 1898 to take charge oe construction of the bridge. The lions seemed to have a particular tasteless for Indian workers, and Patterson quickly realized that he had to do something to stop them.

Finally, in December of 1898, Patterson had his chance. He was out on a hunt when he came face to face with one of the lions. Without hesitation, he raised his rifle and fired, killing the breast with a single shot.

The other lion, however, was still out there somewhere, and Patterson knew he had to find it before it could claim any more victims. He tracked the lion for another month before finally cornering it in a rocky ravine.
